Continuing our series on the best brands in the cannabis industry, we highlight Puffco in this article. Here, we discuss the history of the Puffco brand and give an overview of their two products, both of which are at the top of the vape game.

Rather than manufacturing a ton of vapes, Puffco sticks to doing two exceptionally well - their portable dab rig the Peak, and their vape pen the Plus. Both of the two devices from Puffco offer exceptional flavor and smoothness, preserving the terpene profile of your favorite concentrate as well or better than any other device. Puffco: Company Origins

Puffco has been around since 2013, with a focus on being one of the best concentrate vape manufacturers in the industry. With precision design and a focus on the consumer who loves to “sip” on slow and smooth vape tokes rather than lung-busting clouds, the Puffco Peak and the Puffco Plus was made for cannabis connoisseurs, by cannabis connoisseurs.

Puffco has differentiated itself as one of the most innovative vape manufacturers, and as such, their flagship portable dab rig the Peak has only one true competitor - of which they’re often compared. But more on that a little later in this article. Puffco products have won several High Times Cannabis Cup awards. Additionally, the Puffco Plus was featured in Rolling Stone in 2016. We certainly weren’t thrilled with the writer’s inaccurate and borderline insulting use of the word “freebasing” to describe consuming cannabis concentrate, as well as her incessant obsession with calling cannabis “pot” and consumers “stoners” - the fact that Puffco’s Plus wax pen showed up in a national magazine with a storied history showcases their prominence as a top brand in the vape industry.

Puffco Peak

The brand’s 2018 masterpiece, the Puffco Peak, touts itself as the “world’s first smart dab rig.” While there are only four preset temperatures on the Peak, the “smart” technology comes into play when the device senses that your bowl is getting too hot, and will lower the temp to avoid burns. The first three temperature settings offer smooth and flavorful draws, while the highest temperature does give relatively large clouds - although thick, milky vape clouds aren’t really what Puffco is about.

The Peak has an impressive battery, charging up in under 2 hours and lasting up to six full sessions with friends - or up to about ten solo ones. It does take 20 seconds to heat up, but the wait time is worth it. The aesthetics of the Peak set it apart from the rest - as the hand-blown borosilicate glass looks like a mountain peak, thus earning its name. The silicone base is durable and can be placed on basically any surface. The Peak does come with a carrying case that makes it pretty portable, although it does measure seven inches tall - so don’t expect to consume discreetly with this one.

The fact that the Peak only comes with a ceramic bowl as the only option isn’t as advanced as other brands. However, the session mode, as well as the smart temp settings, really set the Peak apart. Vape enthusiasts might want the ability to have precision controls with their dab rigs, and the Puffo brand might come with that in the future.

The closest competitor to the Puffco Peak is the Focus V Carta V2. Some consumers favor the Carta V2 over the Peak; because the Carta V2 heats up more quickly, gives a broader range of options for bowls, can vape dry herbs as well as concentrates - not to mention a lower price tag. The Peak carries a pretty hefty price tag of $300, so it’s definitely not an entry-level device that most newbies will want to drop so much coin on. However, the stylish look and the top-notch vape flavor and quality of the Peak are unparalleled. The Dr. Dabber Switch is also similar to the Puffco Peak.

Puffco Peak Pro

As of November 2020, the Puffco Brand released a new version of the popular Peak - the Puffco Peak Pro. The Peak Pro comes with some noticeable and impressive upgrades over the original Peak. Right out of the box, you will notice the awesome carrying case that closes tightly and opens up like a book: evenly and sturdily. The case makes an ideal little table for packing a bowl, rolling something up, or anything else while you’re out and about and need some workspace. We thought that was pretty cool.

Outside of the case, the most notable upgrade on the Peak Pro over the original Peak is the real-time precision temperature control, something that the Pro’s little sibling didn’t have. Not too many other devices have such precision temperature in the bowl, which can lead to overheating your extracts and wasting them. The flavor on the original Peak was awesome, but the Peak Pro’s vapor quality and flavor are unmatched. There is also a smartphone app that allows you to fully customize just about everything on the Peak Pro. The app is only on Android at the time of this writing, but Puffco is likely to change that in the Winter of 2021 for iPhone users.

Aesthetically, the customizable glass on the Peak and the Peak Pro looks stunning. The custom glass tops for the original Peak are cross-compatible - meaning if you have an original Peak and want to get the Pro, your old tops will fit the new device.

Puffco Plus

The Puffco Plus is a vape pen that can vape shatter, live resin, or wax. It’s been around for about five years now, and there have been a few updates on the already awesome pen. It’s discreet, durable, affordable, and offers some of the best vapor quality you’ll find thanks to the coil-less heating chamber made from ceramic. Its vapor production is minimal, and the battery life is below average - but the vapor quality durability and the aesthetics of the Puffco Plus device make up for that. Exceptional vapor quality, durability, and attractive builds are basically Puffco’s calling cards - and it is serving them quite well.
