Keep the Smart Stash Box: How Star Trek Characters Would Store Weed

Cannabis consumers who are in search of the best to keep their flowers fresh and secure while keeping odors out will love the KEEP stash box. It’s a futuristic way to store your cannabis flower.

The KEEP Stash box was designed by two fathers from Canada, and the device appears simple enough when you take a look at it. It looks like a smart speaker with a digital clock. But when you open it up, all of that changes. KEEP is opened using a biometric lock, and on the inside are glass containers to keep your cannabis always fresh. There’s also a scale built right into the device as well as a rolling tray. The KEEP device is airtight, and it even sends you mobile alerts wherever you happen to be at the time - if someone tries to open it. It stays locked using facial recognition.

CES 2020 Controversy

The KEEP smart stash box was a CES 2020 Innovation Awards Honoree. However, due to CES restrictions, the company wasn’t able to mention cannabis at all. Co-founder Philip Wilkins told TechCrunch that showcasing the KEEP Stash box at CES wouldn’t be doing the device justice. He says that there is a stigma attached to tech devices that are strictly devoted to cannabis, as they are often seen as “blunts and bongs.” CES wanted to slap a “home storage” label on the KEEP stash box, but that’s not what the product is. It was meant for one thing - to keep cannabis fresh and secure.

The Stigma is Real

As far as we’ve come with legalization and cannabis going mainstream, this is another example of some challenges we still face. Another perfect example is the fact that CBS banned a cannabis commercial from airing during last year’s Super Bowl. CBS had no problem airing beer commercials from brands like Budweiser, but a spot that educates viewers on how cannabis can treat illnesses - that’s a big no-no.

How Much Does the Keep Stash Box Cost?

With a cost of around $175 USD, the KEEP stash box certainly is not cheap. But you definitely get what you pay for. The device is designed for the cannabis consumer of the future. The success of the KEEP smart stash box indicates that there will be a large market for sophisticated consumers who are willing to shell out premium prices cannabis tech.
