Industry Spotlight: HØJ Accessories

Continuing our ongoing series on cannabis brands we respect and appreciate, this installment is on HØJ accessories. Here, we discuss what we know about the brand, their cannabis accessories, and offer up some of our personal opinions about their products.

HØJ Cannabis Accessories is a Danish brand that values down-to-earth simplicity, form, and function over eye-candy or elaborate pieces. It appears that HØJ’s products have been inspired by. For instance, the design of their pipes was inspired by shark scales.

With a minimalist yet stylish and passionate approach similar to that of Puffco vapes, HØJ is another cannabis brand that only makes a handful of products, but they do so very well. There are most certainly more intricate and eye-catching pipes and grinders out there. But HØJ’s target audience seems to be mainly cannabis lovers who simply want their accessories built to be durable and long-lasting. Here’s a brief rundown of their products.

HØJ Cannabis Grinders

Perhaps the product that HØJ is best known for is its durable grinders. They sell two different grinder models: the KLIP and the KLIP Mini. These grinders are not cheap, but they are built to last and feature custom-made engineering that is basically unlike any other grinders on the market today.

The majority, if not all of the other flower grinders we’ve seen will crush the material. This is because when you use traditional grinders, the devices are built the same. What sets the HØJ brand apart is the fact they feature strong and durable blades in each of their grinders. The result is that HØJ grinders don’t crush cannabis flower as most cheaper grinders do.

What happens when you use an HØJ grinder is that there is a fuller, more fluffy plant material than when using a traditional grinder. Fuller plant material burns more slowly and evenly in cones as well as pipes and vaporizers. This slower, more even burn leads to the production of significantly fewer crystals at the bottom of grinders — often referred to as ‘kief’.

Along with less kief buildup comes less required cleanup, and a longer-lasting grinder than just about anything we’ve seen. Perhaps more importantly, fewer kief crystals result in the plant material being more intact, meaning there is a better flavor, smoother inhale, and better representation of the terpene profiles of your favorite cultivars.

Furthermore, HØJ grinders feature unique magnets that “reduce contact with the sides of the grinder through levitation,” according to the brand’s website. This spinning motion means that HØJ grinders have very little friction when turning, causing you to end up with very little clogging. This uniquely innovative design means that your HØJ grinder could very well last a lifetime.

Of course, this smoother inhale and better taste is only true if you keep your devices clean. For a breakdown of why you should keep your bongs and pipes clean, check out our step-by-step guide.

Why Grind Your Cannabis Flower?

As most cannabis lovers know, grinding your flower before loading it into your it to your vaporizer, pipe or cone has its advantages over just “breaking it up” with your hands. First, using your fingers to break apart flower causes the oils in your skin to degrade sensitive trichome-containing crystals. Second, using a grinder helps your flower burn more slowly, resulting in saving money in the long run.

HØJ Pipes

As is the case with their grinders, HØJ manufactures two pipes, the KØL and the KØL mini. The brand makes the bold claim that their pipes cause little coughing, which is commonplace with traditional pipes that, according to the brand, is due to “poor design.” The unique shape of these awesome-looking pipes is inspired by the scales of the Mako shark, which is supposedly designed as such to filter out impurities during smoking.

As is the case with their grinders, KØL pipes are built with magnets inside, which appear to make both cleaning and loading the pipes easier than that of traditional ones. This uniquely intriguing magnetic design holds the top of the pipe in place while consuming, then is easily removed after a session.

Bottom Line - HØJ Cannabis Accessories

In addition to their innovative grinders and pipes, HØJ Accessories makes quality rolling papers and affordable replacement parts for their products. It is unclear how often these moving parts need to be replaced, but unique grinder blades will likely wear down with time. Additionally, there is a seemingly slight risk that the functionality of the magnets in both their pipes and grinders could degrade over time. However, as long as you use their products the right way, you should likely have no problem getting many years of use out of products from HØJ.
